This website, tidelinechronicles.com (“the Site”), is operated by Vlad Gundorin, author of The Tideline Chronicles. This policy explains what information the Site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The short version: the only personal information we ask you for is an email address, we ask for it only from adults, and we use it to send you the things you signed up for. The Site also uses Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement, which use cookies; that is explained below. We never sell your information.
Who this Site is for
The Site markets a children’s book series, but it is written for and directed to parents, grandparents, teachers, and other adults who buy and read books with children. The email signup is intended for adults aged 18 and over.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we do not want to. Specifically:
- The Site’s only data collection is the email signup form, which is labeled for parents and intended for adults.
- The Site has no accounts, comments, chat, forums, uploads, or any other feature through which a child could submit personal information.
- The analytics and advertising cookies described below are used to measure the Site and our ads, not to build profiles of children.
- If we learn that an email address on our list belongs to a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
- If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted their email address, contact us at vlad@tidelinechronicles.com and we will delete it.
What we collect and why
When you join the email list, we collect your email address. We use it to deliver the free Saltworld Map and short story, announce new book releases, and send occasional series news, and (in hashed form, see below) to measure whether our ads lead to signups. We do not collect names, addresses, phone numbers, or payment information. Book purchases happen on Amazon, under Amazon’s privacy policy, and we never see your payment details.
Who processes it
Email signups are processed and stored by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our email service provider, under Kit’s privacy policy. We do not sell or rent your email address. Apart from Kit, the only company that receives anything derived from it is Google, and only as a one-way hashed code, as described under “Cookies and analytics.”
Cookies and analytics
The Site uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read, and Google Ads conversion tracking to measure whether our advertising leads to email signups. Both are provided by Google and use cookies and similar identifiers stored in your browser. Through them, Google receives information such as the pages you view, your browser and device type, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and, if you arrived from one of our ads, which ad you clicked.
When you join the email list, the Site also uses Google’s enhanced conversions feature: your email address is turned into a one-way hashed code in your browser before anything is sent, so Google can match the signup to an ad click. Your email address is not sent to Google in readable form.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings, install Google’s Google Analytics opt-out add-on, and control ad personalization in Google’s My Ad Center. Google’s use of this data is governed by Google’s privacy policy. Page fonts are also served by Google Fonts, which means Google’s servers receive a standard web request (including your IP address) when a page loads.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you from all future mailings.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe at any time, and you can email vlad@tidelinechronicles.com to ask what information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. We honor these requests regardless of where you live.
Links to other sites
The Site links to Amazon for book purchases. Those links carry Amazon tracking codes (Amazon Attribution and Amazon Associates) so we can see whether the Site leads to sales. We receive only aggregate reports of clicks and sales, never your identity. Amazon and other linked sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we will update this page and its effective date. Material changes affecting the email list will be announced by email.
